(Reuters) — Yemen’s Houthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam said that the country would continue to defend itself after several U.S. strikes targeted facilities in the capital Sanaa on Tuesday.

The U.S. military launched airstrikes in Yemen, targeting the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group following recent missile threats against Israel. Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party criticized the inclusion of Uyghurs in Syrias armed forces, drawing attention to its own alleged genocide of the minority group.  

Houthi militants have used the targeted facilities to conduct attacks on U.S. Navy warships and merchant vessels in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, according to Central Command.

The targets struck by U.S. forces had been used to attack American warships and commercial vessels, officials said.

For more than a year, Yemens Houthi rebels have launched long-distance missile and drone attacks on Israel and Red Sea shipping. After Israel largely subdued its Iran-allied enemies closer at hand, it is struggling to deter the Houthis on its own.
